Monocot.  Flower parts in 3's and 6's, the sepals and petals nearly alike in many cases.  Stamens usually 6.  Pistil compound.  Leaves often grasslike with parallel veins.  Underground storage in the form of bulbs, corms or fleshy rootstocks usually present.
